About the Christmas musical tradition of the First Baptist Church of Marion

Rev. Brian Summers accepted the call as Minister of Music & Worship in 1999.  Coming from a 20-year background as a high school/college music instructor and having founded, in 1977, a regional community theatre troupe, The Pyramid Players, he saw the opportunity to fuse the art form of Broadway musicals into the music ministries of Marion First.  The vision became a reality in 2004, when the Marion Civic Center offered their stage for a Christmas production.  Since that year, along with drama directors Matt Sanders & Tom Herman, the church has presented annual holiday productions focused on the true meaning of Christmas…Christ.

ast musicals include:  Journey to the Manger (2004); All on a Christmas Day (2005); Four Tickets to Christmas (2006); A Time for Christmas (2007); The Christmas Post (2008); Two From Galilee (2009 & 2010); The Gospel According to Scrooge (2011)
